Meet the librarian:
My name is Yesenia Nicoson and I've been teaching since 1995; 21 of those years have been spent here, at BJHS. After teaching 6th grade for 16 years, I decided to become a librarian. It is the BEST job ever. I married my college sweetheart 21 years ago and we have three teenagers and a dog. I'm a life-long learner and a techie wannabe. When I'm not out walking, I can be found reading, baking, or taking a nap.
Meet the assistant:
Hi there, my name is Amanda Pierce-Ghahramany. I am originally from the south coast of England and came to Bloomington in 1984 to pursue a degree in Fine Arts specializing in glass. Prior to coming to the States I had worked in London for two years at a glass studio. My time now is divided between my studio and the LMC at BJHS. It is a balance of creativity and my love of blowing glass with my passion for books and working with students. Outside of work my passions are travelling and exploring, being out in nature and spending lots of time with my family both here and back home in England.
BJHS LMC Philosophy
-
Our LMC includes an organized collection of resources available to students and staff to supplement classroom instruction, foster reading for pleasure, enhance information literacy, and support research, as appropriate to students of all abilities in the grade levels. We strive to include our patrons and teachers in the collection development process. It is our belief that, as Roudine Bishop states, "Books are sometimes windows, offering views of worlds that may be real or imagined, familiar or strange. These windows are also sliding glass doors, and readers have only to walk through in imagination to become part of whatever world has been created or recreated by the author. When lighting conditions are just right, however, a window can also be a mirror. Literature transforms human experience and reflects it back to us, and in that reflection we can see our own lives and experiences as part of a larger human experience."
